Three errors that altered Vinod Khanna’s career path

Rising to prominence in Indian cinema, Vinod Khanna had a varied career, including acting, producing films, and politics. Alongside celebrities like Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan, Khanna was regarded as a style and fashion icon and was one of the highest-paid performers of his time. He ruled the silver screen in the 1970s with Bachchan, but because of Khanna’s mistakes in the workplace, their paths parted.

In 1968, Khanna made his feature film debut in Sunil Dutt’s Man Ka Meet, quickly distinguishing himself as a gifted actor. Notably, he received a lot of praise for his depiction of an irate young guy in Mere Apne. Still, his image as a dangerous villain was cemented by his hostile parts in movies such as Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Puarb Aur Paschim, Sachaa Jhutha, and Aan Milo Sajna.

As a result of his breakthrough performance alongside Rajesh Khanna in Anand (1971) and his legendary performance in Zanjeer (1973), Amitabh Bachchan’s career took off, garnering him the nickname “angry young man” and catapulting him into superstardom.

Khanna’s professional trajectory was hampered by a series of errors, despite his early triumphs. Although his films with Bachchan, such as Amar Akbar Anthony and Parvarish, were warmly praised, Bachchan dominated the screen in Khanna’s later performances in Muqaddar Ka Sikandar and Khoon Pasina.

Khanna’s career was further disrupted by his desire to go on a spiritual trip. At the height of his career, in 1982, he took a five-year sabbatical to follow his spiritual mentor, Osho Rajneesh. His reputation in the field suffered as a result of this hiatus, and upon his return, he found it difficult to restore his previous level of notoriety.

In spite of his failures, Vinod Khanna left a lasting impact in Indian cinema, and his roles and legacy will always serve as an inspiration to upcoming performers. Despite his career setbacks, Khanna’s lasting influence on Bollywood is proof of his skill and adaptability as a performer.
