A bus accident in Leipzig, Germany, claimed five lives

A bus accident on a German freeway close to Leipzig on Wednesday resulted in at least five fatalities and perhaps a dozen injuries, according to police, who spoke with AFP.

According to authorities, the bus derailed off the A9 road and flipped early in the morning between Wiedemar and the Schkeuditzer Kreuz motorway intersection.

According to German police, the freeway was stopped in both directions as emergency personnel treated the wounded at the site.

According to a statement from the German travel agency Flixbus, the bus was in route from Berlin to Zurich.

The budget operator said that there were two drivers and 53 people on board.

According to Flixbus, “the precise circumstances of the accident are not yet known.”

It said, “Of course, we are closely collaborating with the local authorities and the emergency services on site, and we will do everything in our power to quickly and completely clarify the cause of the accident.”
