As the United States and China commemorate 45 years of diplomatic ties, Xi Jinping and Biden offer congratulations

According to a Reuters story, the Chinese foreign ministry announced on Monday that US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated each other on the 45th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.

According to Xi, the US and China have both “weathered storms” and “moved forward in general,” which has improved both nations’ citizens’ quality of life and contributed to global peace, stability, and prosperity. The US and China establishing diplomatic connections, he said, is a significant development in the annals of both bilateral and global relations.

In order to advance global peace and prosperity, Xi Jinping said, “I am willing to work with President Biden to continue to steer and navigate the China-US relationship for the benefit of China, the US, and the two peoples.”

Officials from the Biden administration made many trips to Beijing last year to meet with colleagues in an effort to mend fences and foster trust. This effort culminated in the high-stakes meeting between Biden and Xi in San Francisco in November. The two biggest economies in the world were thought to be able to defuse their tensions via the summit.

According to Xi Jinping, the summit identified a future-focused path for the two countries’ diplomatic relations.

XI DIALS PUTIN
The Chinese leader also wished Russian President Vladimir Putin a happy New Year’s Eve. It has been 75 years since China and Russia established diplomatic ties this year.

Russia’s economic dependence on China has increased as a result of its growing isolation and the sanctions it has faced, particularly from Western nations, after its invasion of Ukraine, a conflict that will go into its third year in February.

According to Xi, comprehensive strategic coordination, mutually beneficial collaboration, and connections “featuring permanent good-neighborly friendship” should all be developed between China and Russia in order to best serve their respective nations’ interests.

The People’s Republic of China was founded 75 years ago this year by Mao Zedong, who after a terrible civil war beat Chiang Kai-shek’s Republic of China armies.

YEAR OF NORTH KOREA FRIENDSHIP
Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, also exchanged New Year’s greetings. He and Kim declared 2024 to be their “year of friendship” for their respective nations. In addition, the leaders organized a number of activities to mark the celebrations.

According to Xi, China is prepared to collaborate with Pyongyang in order to strengthen their strategic mutual confidence, expand their bilateral relations, improve their exchanges and collaboration, and provide fresh insights into the upkeep of regional peace and stability.

On October 1, 1949, Mao proclaimed the People’s Republic of China, and in December of the same year, Chiang’s administration retreated to Taiwan and went into exile. The Republic of China is still the official name of Taiwan, and no peace treaty has yet been signed to put an end to the conflict.

With fewer than two weeks before the democratically governed island elects a new leader, Xi struck a tougher tone than he did a year ago when he said in his New Year’s speech on Sunday that China’s “reunification” with Taiwan is inevitable.
