Envoy Garcetti: “India and the US are creating a free and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.”

US Ambassador Eric Garcetti praised the current joint exercise between the two countries on Tuesday, saying that America and India are paving the road for a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific.

“Tiger Triumph-24,” a bilateral tri-service Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) exercise between the US and India, began on Monday and will run until March 31 along the Eastern Seaboard.

“We’d like to congratulate the US and Indian Navy for an outstanding start to #TIGERTRIUMPH 2024! Ambassador Garcetti said in a post on X that “joint exercises like this underscore the vital #USIndiaDefense partnership, strengthening our bonds and securing our shared interests.”

He said, adding the hashtag #USIndiaFWD, “Together, we’re paving the way for a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific that benefits all nations.”

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin acknowledged on Monday the critical role the Indian Navy plays in policing the Indian Ocean area against piracy.

He spoke over the phone with Rajnath Singh, the Minister of Defence, on how to carry out the past year’s India-US Defense Cooperation Roadmap.

According to an announcement from the Indian Navy, Tiger Triumph-24 is designed to improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) and interoperability for HADR operations so that personnel from both nations can coordinate quickly and easily.

The dates of the Harbour Phase are set for March 18–25. Participants in training visits, subject matter expert exchanges, sporting events, and social engagements would be drawn from both fleets’ personnel.

The navy said that when this phase was over, the ships would go for the sea phase with the soldiers on board, where they would conduct HADR, maritime, and amphibious operations in line with the scenarios.
