Hezbollah in Lebanon claims that after Israeli attacks, it fired dozens of missiles

After Israeli bombings on the hamlet of Hebbariyeh in southern Lebanon that left several dead the day before, Hezbollah in Lebanon claimed responsibility for firing dozens of rockets toward Kiryet Shmona, an Israeli town across the border, early on Wednesday.

Since the Israel-Hamas war broke out in Gaza, Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah have started exchanging gunfire across the border. This is the largest escalation between the long-standing foes since their six-month-long battle in 2006.

Strikes have resumed this week after a respite in cross-border shelling, despite both sides’ declarations that they are open to diplomacy and do not want an all-out war.

According to two Lebanese security officials who spoke to Reuters, the Israeli attacks on Hebbariyeh claimed the lives of at least seven people.

The reports said that the emergency and relief center of the Islamist organization located in the area looked to be the target of the Israeli attacks.

Regarding the purported Hezbollah attacks on Wednesday, Israel did not immediately respond or provide information on any deaths or damage.

The conflict in Gaza has erupted and is already affecting other regions of the Middle East.

Apart from the hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, Yemen’s Houthis, who are associated with Iran, have been assaulting ships in the Red Sea, and armed groups in Iraq who have strong links to Tehran have assaulted sites that house American personnel there.

Hezbollah had denounced the attacks on Habbariyeh early on Wednesday. The health ministry of Lebanon said that over six medical staff and rescue workers have already died as a result of Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon.

Three Hezbollah terrorists were killed by Israeli airstrikes on Tuesday near two towns in northeastern Lebanon, according to a message made by the organization on Telegram. Israel acknowledged those attacks.
