More Hezbollah locations in Lebanon’s Bekaa are struck by Israeli planes

For the second day in a row, Israeli jets attacked deep into Lebanon on Tuesday. They targeted a Hezbollah base in the Bekaa Valley and killed at least one member of the organization, according to sources in Lebanon.

In reaction to Hezbollah rocket launches into northern Israel earlier in the day, the Israeli military said that its fighter planes had “struck two Hezbollah military command centres” in the Baalbek region.

The bloodshed fueled worries of an all-out war between the highly armed foes and marked a turning point in the fight between Israel and Hezbollah, which has been conducted concurrently with the Gaza war.

In reaction to Israeli bombardment of the Bekaa Valley area on Monday night, Hezbollah stated in a statement that it had launched more than 100 Katyusha rockets at 7 am (0500 GMT), hitting various Israeli military sites.

Two security sources in Lebanon and the governor of Baalbek, Bashir Khader, said that at least one civilian was killed and many others were injured in Israel’s attacks on Monday. One of the strikes targeted the southern gate to the city of Baalbek, which is located approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) from the old Roman ruins.

In reaction to the missile launches on Monday, the Israeli military announced that its fighter planes had attacked locations in the Baalbek region that Hezbollah used to store “significant assets used to strength its weapons arsenal.”

The Israeli military went on, “Terrorist infrastructure in the area of Bint Jbeil and a military compound in the area of Khiam were also struck.”

According to one of the Lebanese sources, an airstrike in the hamlet of Nabi Chit in the Bekaa Valley killed the Hezbollah member and injured numerous others. The targeted area is close to the Syrian border in Lebanon and serves as a stronghold for the Shi’ite Islamist organization.
