Only with Nawaz Sharif’s blessing can Pakistan’s caretaker PM be chosen, and Shehbaz will provide a list of candidates

The names of all candidates for the position of caretaker prime minister will be sent to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday. The Pakistani daily the Dawn said that Sharif would submit the list to his older brother, Nawaz Sharif, the party leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) (PML-N), who will then approve three people from that list.

According to a report by the Dawn, Shehbaz Sharif would discuss three names with Nawaz Sharif, and Nawaz Sharif will approve of at least one of them.

According to the allegation, the PML-N and the PPP have already determined who would be named caretaker prime minister and are “intentionally” keeping quiet about it. PPP has already given Sharif the list.

Despite these developments, the other six members of the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), including the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan (Fazl) (JUI-F), and other organizations, will present the Pakistan Prime Minister with names of candidates they believe would be more suitable for the position today.

According to the source, Sharif had a conference with all of his allies to discuss a three-point plan. The governing coalition considered the dissolution of the national and provincial legislatures, the choice of a temporary prime minister, and elections based on the census of 2023.

The conference was attended by the foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, MNAs Mohsin Dawar and Aslam Bhootani, JUI-F emir Maulana Fazlur Rehman, MQM-P convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, leader of the Balochistan Awami Party Khalid Magsi.

The caretaker job has not yet received names from BNP, JUI-F, or MQM-P.

Raja Riaz, the head of the opposition and a dissident member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), would be given access to the names when Nawaz finalizes them.

The candidates for caretaker prime minister include Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, former PM and estranged PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former finance minister Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, former principal secretary to PM Fawad Hassan Fawad, former CJP Tassaduq Hussain Jilani, former permanent representative to the UN Abdullah Hussain Haroon, Pir of Pagaro Sibghatullah Shah
