Potential cause of Hamas strike on Israel might be the India-Middle East-Europe corridor: Biden

President of the United States Joe Biden has hinted that the recent announcement of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, which links Israel and the rest of the region with a network of ports, trains, and roadways, may have had a role in the deadly Hamas assault on Israel on October 7. During a joint news conference with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Wednesday, Biden said these things.

“I have no evidence to support my theory, but my gut tells me that the progress we were making toward regional integration for Israel and regional integration in general was a contributing factor in Hamas’s strike at the time. That job must be abandoned, Biden said.

More than 1,400 people, including women, children, and foreign nationals, were killed in a vicious assault on Israel earlier this month by the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, which has its headquarters in Gaza. Israel retaliated by declaring war on Hamas and pledging to eliminate the group’s capacity for terrorism and administration.

The US president had previously said that the goal of the Hamas assault was to undo the progress the US has made in normalizing relations with Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the massive maritime and rail connection route between India, the Middle East, and Europe at the G20 Summit in New Delhi in early September. Hailed as a “real big deal” by the US President, an agreement was signed by the US President, Saudi Arabia, India, the UAE, France, Germany, Italy, and the European Union to build the corridor.

Goods may be moved from India to the Fujairah Port in the United Arab Emirates and then to the Port of Haifa in Israel via Saudi Arabia and Jordan thanks to the maritime and rail connection corridor between Europe and India via the Middle East. There is now a train connection running from Saudi Arabia to Jordan.

The final section of the corridor will be constructed to link Jordan with Israel’s Haifa Port. Goods from Asia, including India, will be exported to Europe via Haifa Port. France, Germany, and Italy have all contributed heavily to the initiative as well.
