Release of Donald Trump’s Mugshot Following Arrest in Georgia Election Case

On Thursday evening, not long after Donald Trump had been arrested in Atlanta on a dozen felony charges related to Georgia’s loss in the 2020 presidential election, the mug image of the former US president was made public.

Two individuals familiar with the conversations told that Donald Trump’s team had discussed the former president’s mug photo before he took it at the Fulton County prison. According to the source, he purposely opted not to grin because he wanted to seem “defiant” in the picture. The mugshot of Trump, prisoner number P01135809, showed him scowling at the camera.

Trump’s participation in the picture was yet another remarkable event for him since he wasn’t required to do so in any of his prior three criminal cases.

Even as he launches a second run for the White House in 2019, 77-year-old Trump has already broken new ground by becoming the first former American president to be charged with a crime. The four charges brought against him, however, have done nothing to harm his campaign and, if anything, have helped him garner support from Republican voters. In the fight for the Republican nomination to take against Democratic President Joe Biden in the November 2024 election, he has a significant polling advantage.

As Trump arrived at the prison, dozens of fans crowded around to get a sight while waving Trump banners and American flags. One of the former president’s most devoted legislative friends, Georgia U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, was among the Trump supporters waiting outside.

Trump joins criminal Al Capone, singer Frank Sinatra, and other famous Americans who have posed for jailhouse photos with the mug picture, which was not immediately made public. Both Trump’s opponents and supporters are expected to share the photograph extensively.

In the Georgia case, Trump is accused of pressuring state officials to overturn his election loss and assembling an illegitimate slate of electors to thwart the formal congressional certification of Biden’s victory in 2020. He is also charged with 13 felonies, including racketeering, which is typically used to target organized crime.

Leading contenders for the Republican presidential nomination convened in Milwaukee on Wednesday for the first debate. Instead of attending that event, Trump sat for a pre-recorded interview with conservative pundit Tucker Carlson designed to draw viewers away.
