Syrian media reports that Israeli airstrikes damaged the runways at the airports in Damascus and Aleppo

According to Syrian state television, Israeli airstrikes on Thursday damaged and shut down the runways at the international airports in Aleppo and the northern city of Damascus.

An anonymous military officer was reported by the state news agency SANA as reporting that no one was harmed during the assault.

Israeli military officials chose not to comment.

They would be the first Israeli assault on Syria since the fatal bombings in southern Israel by the terrorist Palestinian organization Hamas.

An formal meeting between the Iranian foreign minister and Syrian authorities to discuss the tense situation in the area was arranged for the day before the attacks.

Israel has reportedly targeted airports and sea ports in the areas of Syria controlled by the government in an effort to halt the flow of weapons from Iran to terrorist organizations supported by the Iranian government, such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah. Over the course of Syria’s 12-year battle, thousands of militants from the area who were supported by Iran helped President Bashar Assad’s army win the day.

Israel has attacked several targets inside of government-controlled areas of Syria in recent years, including the airports in Aleppo and Damascus, although it seldom admits or talks about the actions.
