Two police officers are hurt in a shooting outside Mexico City’s main international airport

In the course of a police pursuit that wounded two policemen and temporarily sparked fear among passengers on Tuesday, a suspected thief opened fire outside Mexico City’s primary international airport, according to officials.

While following a guy suspected of stealing goods in the airport’s customs area, one officer was shot in the leg and shoulder, while another was ran over, according to the city’s security secretariat.

According to the report, the 27-year-old motorist drove into a passenger terminal at Mexico City International Airport and collided with a number of cars before being stopped by police.

Social media posts featured terrified airport staff and passengers hiding behind counters.

According to the airport manager, “no passenger or visitor was put at risk” during the event.

While gunshots in significant public places are relatively uncommon in Mexico’s capital, which has an official murder rate substantially below the country’s average, drug-related violence is pervasive across the country.
