Delhi, New: The third child of King Abdullah and Queen Rania of Jordan, Princess Salma bint Abdullah, is supposedly responsible for shooting down Iranian drones that purportedly broke into Jordanian airspace on their way to Israel. These allegations have caused quite a stir on social media. Princess Salma is a pilot in the Royal Jordanian Air Force, but the image going viral on social media is not accurate. Furthermore, her role in any operation to intercept Iranian drones has not been confirmed by any official source.
The widely shared tweet states, “Princess Salma of Jordan shot down 6 Iranian drones last night” and includes a photograph of the 23-year-old princess dressed in her Royal Jordanian Air Force pilot outfit. But in recent viral uploads, this picture has been misconstrued as dating back to 2023, as many news stories from the previous year have confirmed.

As a member of a delegation, Princess Salma was instrumental in bringing supplies to a hospital in Gaza in December 2023. She oversaw the delivery of supplies to the 41-bed Jordanian field hospital in northern Gaza while serving as a first lieutenant in the Royal Jordanian Air Force. Notably, Princess Salma became the first female pilot in Jordanian history in 2020 at the age of 23, when she was granted her wings.
