The brave Frenchman Damien Guerot intervened during a terrifying event at Westfield Bondi Junction in Australia, and his actions were captured in a viral video that went viral recently. Guerot, who was thereafter nicknamed the “Bollard Man,” showed incredible courage by confronting Joel Cauchi, his attacker, during a stabbing spree that unfortunately resulted in the deaths of five women and one man.

Guerot’s fast thinking and attempts to prevent additional harm stood out among the chaos of the incident, particularly given he was in a child-populated area. His quick action—which was captured on tape and went viral—showcased an amazing display of courage and altruism.

Guerot’s visa was set to expire, leaving him with an unclear future in Australia. But according to Mail Online, in response to a petition demanding Guerot’s citizenship and a great deal of public support, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said that Guerot is welcome to remain in the country indefinitely.

Albanese expressed his gratitude for Guerot’s bravery and acknowledged the profound impact his actions had on the nation’s conscience. “I say this to Damien Guerot, who is dealing with his visa applications, that you are welcome here,” Albanese reportedly said, as reported by Mail Online. Feel free to remain for as long as you want.

Reflecting on that awful day, Guerot narrated the anxious moments as he and his compatriot, Silas Despreaux, approached the attacker on the mall escalator. They put up bollards in an effort to halt Cauchi, but the assailant was able to get by them for a little period. Mail Online cited Damien as adding, “We didn’t think.” You are unable to think at that time.

Cauchi was relentlessly pursued by Guerot and Despreaux, who showed amazing bravery in the face of danger. Ultimately, the matter was settled by NSW Police Inspector Amy Scott’s swift and resolute action, which led to Cauchi’s shooting death upon trying to attack her.

Damien expressed his gratitude to Officer Scott by remarking, “She’s the real hero.”
