A student protest at Ashoka University in Sonipat gets viral

Ashoka University is in the news after a video of students calling for a caste census and taking action against hate speech on campus went viral today.

According to accounts, the demonstration was initiated by a group of students who were supporting their three requests and went by the name of the Social Justice Forum, an autonomous student organisation.

Students want the university to hold an annual Ambedkar Memorial Lecture, where speakers from marginalised communities will speak on social justice; they also want to change the fee payment policy, which currently blocks ID cards and locks students out of facilities like Google Classrooms and mess meals if they pay their fees after the deadline.
