In Srinagar, people commemorate Ram Navami by embarking on the Shobha Yatra

The tiny Hindu community in the city marked Ram Navami on Wednesday by embarking on a Shobha Yatra in the heavily guarded summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Ram Navami Shobha Yatra began in the ancient city’s Zaindar Mohalla and ended at Tankipora, having passed via Jehangir Chowk, Habbakadal, Barbarshah, Lal Chowk, and Hari Singh High Street.

For the last 17 years, we have been carrying out this yatra and ‘jhanki’ annually. It was previously halted because of unrest in the Valley, a participant said.

He added that even though they are a minority, the Kashmiri Pandit community participates in the city center parade with tremendous fervor.

He conveyed his appreciation to Kashmiri Pandits and Muslims for their assistance in organizing the parade.
