Real-Life Weight Loss Story: How Did “Nariyal Ke Ladoos” Help Sushmita Das Lose 15 lbs After Giving Birth?

Real-Life Weight Loss Story: Losing weight is a process that calls for varying degrees of mental, physical, and emotional commitment. For each person on a subjective trip, there may be differences in the route, timing, and destination. Everybody has a different story about how, when, and why they decided to take on this quest. Sushmita took this action due to body shaming, her postpartum experience, and other factors.

32-year-old software engineer Sushmita Das shared her story exclusively with India.com, saying, “After giving birth, I experienced constant body shaming for my weight and skin tone, a cruel echo of my school days, with the harshest words coming from my husband.” My mental state was impacted by this. I made the decision to disprove them and demonstrate my abilities to the world. But as I started the trip, it became less about proving something to other people and more about becoming the greatest version of myself for my loved ones.

This is Sushmita’s motivational weight loss story, along with details on how she controlled her food and lifestyle choices after she shed 15 kg in around three to four months.

What was your regimen and diet for losing weight?
I came to understand that losing weight is just one component of complete health—both emotional and physical. My goals were to improve my health for both my job and my personal life. It takes more than simply increasing movement to accelerate the process; a healthy diet is also necessary. I choose to eat straightforward, healthful meals, modeling my diet after that of my forefathers. It was simple cuisine that is in line with my DNA for improved absorption and digestion—nothing fancy. I didn’t want to eat anything outside of homemade cooking.

My Nutrition Schedule:

Plain copper-charged water at 6:00 AM
Roti Sabji Eggs around 10:00 A.M.
Fruits at 11:30 A.M.
Rice Dal Salad with Fish or Chicken, 1:00 PM
Masala Murmura Chai at 5:00 PM
Dinner is at Roti Fish Curry at 9:00 p.m.
Have you eliminated all sugar completely?
No, I changed my attention to jaggery and naturally occurring sugars in my diet.

Have you ever had any cheat meals?
I stuck to my schedule and was consistent, not giving in to the idea of cheat days. On rare occasions like Janmashtami, I would, however, sometimes indulge in sweets like NariyalkaLaddoo, adhering to the same diet as my Nani and Dadi.

Which one of the rules do you follow in order to lose weight?
Maintaining consistency is crucial. It really benefits you in the long term to consistently show up for exercises regardless of how you’re feeling—happy, unhappy, exhausted, or depressed.

Which one of your strategies worked the best?
I was always encouraged by the idea of group courses and the encouragement of my exercise partnerss (Badal, Angie, and Nitin). My first objective was to lose weight. However, my viewpoint changed when I participated in formats like S&C and Prowl courses. At that point, I understood that being physically active was a mental haven and losing weight was only a bonus. In addition, exercise was the one thing that remained consistent in my life despite all the obstacles I encountered; my team and trainers served as my main sources of inspiration. In addition, Cult.fit became my second home, providing me with a break from the chaos of my personal issues.

One difficulty you encountered, and how did you resolve it?
I overcame this obstacle by deciding to lift hard and pushing myself outside my comfort zone after hitting a plateau in my weight loss.

During your journey, did you encounter any misconceptions about weight loss?
Yes, the much-maligned misconception that there is no targeted fat loss due to spot reduction. The primary goal should be holistic health; weight reduction is only a result.

Keep your attention on your path to health and enjoy the strength you acquire; the rest will come. One step at a time, make an effort to get better and stronger every day. As a single mother, I overcame hardship by celebrating my personal accomplishments and inspiring my son and others to do the same. For me, being fit meant strengthening my spirit as much as my physical appearance.
