Who Is Anand Mishra, the Resigned IPS Officer Committed to Social Service?

Anand Mishra, a respected IPS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, made news lately when he announced that he was leaving his esteemed position to pursue a life of personal independence and social duty. Mishra joined the Indian Police Service after achieving an All India Rank (AIR) of 225 in the UPSC CSE 2010 and was recognized for his dedication to upholding law and order throughout his career.

Mishra, a native of Bihar, went to Kolkata to finish his high school and college degrees before entering the government service. Mishra’s perseverance allowed him to pass the UPSC CSE 2010 test and get admission into the Indian Police Service after he first served in the West Bengal Civil Service from 2005 to 2010.

Mishra served as the Lakhimpur district of Assam’s Superintendent of Police (SP) for the duration of his tenure. Because of his efforts, he has been known online as “Assam’s Singham.” He has a sizable Instagram following of 326,000 users. Subsequently, Mishra was sent to assist a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Manipur, which was looking into violent occurrences in the area.

Mishra expressed his desire to pursue personal and societal goals outside of his IPS duties in his resignation letter to the Chief Secretary of the Government of Assam. His dream is to live a free and self-sufficient existence. “The uniform is my first and last love,” he said. These last twelve years have been dedicated to serving others. However, the reality is that when working in such a profession, you are required to adhere to certain codes of behavior. My goal is to improve the lives of people in Bihar, my native state, and I can only achieve this by refusing to serve.

Mishra took a move that has prompted suspicion, and since then, there has been a lot of discussion regarding his potential political future. Rumor has it that he could join the BJP and stand for election to the Lok Sabha in 2024. But despite all of this conjecture, Mishra’s main objective is to leverage his experience in anti-mafia and counter-insurgency operations to use other channels to meaningfully contribute to society. Mishra said he wants to concentrate on the developmental requirements of his birthplace in Bihar when asked about his future intentions. He emphasized that the local people want him to concentrate on making their lives better.

Mishra stressed the value of pursuing one’s passion and asked people not to look up to him in a message sent to The Times of India.
