18 Indian Fishermen Taken Away by Sri Lankan Navy and Sent Back Home

Tuesday saw the homecoming of up to eighteen Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu who had been detained by the Sri Lankan Navy. They flew in from Colombo, where they were met by BJP leaders and fisheries department officials from Tamil Nadu.

Due to suspected maritime infractions, the fishermen were taken into custody by the Lankan Navy last month and placed in a jail there. They were held at a camp there after a local court ordered their release earlier this month, according to authorities.

The fisherman boarded a car provided by the state government and headed by road for Ramanathapuram.
