24 retired civil servants want the vice president to postpone Naseer Hussain, a member of the Rajya Sabha, taking an oath

NEW DELHI: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar received a letter on Wednesday from twenty-four retired civil services officers from the IAS, IPS, IFS, and IRS pleading with him to delay giving newly elected Rajya Sabha member Naseer Hussain the oath of office until the legal proceedings regarding the raising of the “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans are concluded. During Hussain’s victory celebration at the Karnataka assembly premises, these slogans were made.

“We have learned through the media that some of Syed Naseer Hussain’s chosen supporters publicly shouted “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans in celebration of his victory in the Rajya Sabha elections inside the Vidhana Soudha, a revered temple of democracy and protected area, following the Election Commission of India’s announcement that he had been elected to Parliament from the State of Karnataka. The letter said that “Syed Naseer Hussain’s recommendation and knowledge allowed all of his supporters to enter the State Legislature Building Vidhana Soudha’s protected area to celebrate his election victory.”
Thus, we humbly ask that the administration of the oath to Syed Naseer Hussain, the recently elected member of the Rajya Sabha, be postponed until the legal processes are concluded, and that the member be cleared of any role in the incident as a whole. We kindly ask that you take immediate necessary action in this respect,” the letter said.
Three days of police detention were earlier on Tuesday given to the three individuals detained in relation to the purportedly pro-Pakistani slogan at Vidhana Soudha in Karnataka by a Bengaluru court.
Three persons were detained by the Bengaluru police on March 4 for reportedly yelling “Pakistan Zindabad” during Naseer Hussain’s victory celebrations.
Shekhar HT, the deputy commissioner of Bengaluru Police’s central division, verified that the FSL report, corroborative evidence, and testimonies from witnesses present at the scene formed the basis for the arrest.
“Three accused persons were arrested and legal action was initiated against them based on the FSL report, circumstantial evidence, witness statements, and available evidence,” the deputy commissioner of Police, central division of Bangalore City, said in a news release.
The accused are Mohammed Shafi Nashipudi from Byadagi in the Haveri district, Munawar from RT Nagar in Bengaluru, and Iltaz from Delhi.
The home minister of Karnataka, G Parameshwara, said that the FSL investigation verified that Pakistan Zindabad chants were yelled during Naseer Hussain’s victory celebration at the Vidhan Soudha complex.
