After the AAP claimed that a BJP candidate had represented “anti-national forces” in court, Bansuri Swaraj retaliated

In a retaliatory move against the governing party in Delhi, the AAP on Sunday assailed the BJP for fielding Bansuri Swaraj from the New Delhi constituency in the Lok Sabha elections, arguing that she had defended “anti-national forces” in court.

At a news conference, Delhi Minister Atishi stated that Swaraj, the late BJP leader and former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj’s daughter, should apologize to the nation for taking up these issues. She also asked that the saffron party replace Swaraj.

“Swaraj has represented Lalit Modi, a wanted man who left the nation after embezzling millions of crores of rupees, in court on many occasions. The senior AAP leader said that “she consistently defended Lalit Modi in the case of his passport from lower courts to the high court to the Supreme Court from 2012 to 2014.”

Before the division bench issued its ruling, he left with his passport and hasn’t been seen since. Furthermore, she said, Lalit Modi had tweeted his gratitude to Bansuri Swaraj for taking up his cause.

Atishi said at the press conference that Swaraj represented the BJP-led Centre in the Supreme Court when two women were stripped and displayed during the violence in Manipur.

Atishi said, “She will approach women in the New Delhi constituency today and request their votes.” The minister from Delhi went on to say that Swaraj supported the BJP’s “fake mayor” before the Supreme Court during the Chandigarh mayoral elections, during which there was an attempt at vote stealing and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court declared the election to be a “murder of democracy.” Additionally, Atishi insisted that the BJP run a different candidate for the seat than Swaraj. The INDIA bloc’s candidate for the New Delhi seat, Somnath Bharti, also insisted that Swaraj and the BJP “apologize for such a blunder.”

Atishi discussed the decision of departing BJP MP Harsh Vardhan to retire from electoral politics at the news conference. She said that Vardhan is well-known for his integrity and dedication to serving the nation, as well as the people of his assembly and parliamentary constituencies.

He spoke up on behalf of the people on matters of public importance every time. “I believe it’s evident that similar to how he was once removed from his role as health minister for bringing up certain issues, it appears that his ticket may have been canceled because of his integrity,” she said.

The BJP has filed fresh candidates from four constituencies: New Delhi (Swaraj), West Delhi (Kamaljeet Sehrawat), South Delhi (Ramvir Singh Bidhuri), and Chandni Chowk (Praveen Khandelwal), with the exception of North East Delhi, where Manoj Tiwari has been nominated for a third term.

The BJP has not yet announced its nominees for North West Delhi and East Delhi, where MP Gautam Gambhir has said he asked party head JP Nadda to relieve him of his political obligations. Retaliating, Swaraj questioned the AAP’s selection of the candidate, who was reportedly assaulted on Saturday in Rajendra Nagar by members of his own cadre.

“I would like to ask the AAP—why have you fielded a candidate who was beaten up by his own cadre in Rajendra Nagar yesterday (Saturday)?” she remarked in response to the AAP’s accusations. They have selected a candidate who is unpopular with members of his own party. People will respond to their accusations against us in the polls, she warned.
