AIIMS will establish a bottling plant to decrease the use of single-use plastic bottles

The prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi has announced the establishment of a bottling plant to deliver safe drinking water in reusable glass bottles.

M Srinivas, the director of AIIMS, made the choice in an effort to lessen the environmental effect of single-use drinking cups.

AIIMS Delhi is committed to provide a sustainable substitute for obtaining sanitary bottled drinking water, acknowledging the urgent need to move away from single-use plastics in meetings, conferences, and other events, the institution said on Thursday.

“The bottling plant, which will include state-of-the-art machinery for no-touch automated glass bottle cleaning, disinfection, repackaging, and sealing, will be located under the administrative control of the central cafeteria. It will initially be able to handle at least 15,000 bottles, each holding 500 milliliters, each month, according to the statement.

It also said that this facility would guarantee adherence to all relevant legal criteria, including FSSAI licensing, in order to assure the highest levels of quality and safety.

According to the AIIMS, the bottling plant would be the main source of bottled drinking water for the institute’s formal conferences and meetings. Depending on demand and input, the facility’s offerings may potentially be expanded to better serve patients and their companions.

Srinivas said, “We are proud to take this significant step towards environmental sustainability,” in reference to this eco-conscious project. We are encouraging environmental responsibility and fostering a healthier and more sustainable future by decreasing the use of throwaway plastic bottles and providing safe drinking water in reusable glass containers.

“This initiative reflects AIIMS Delhi’s commitment to environmental conservation and aligns with the government’s vision of reducing plastic waste,” said Rima Dada, the professor in charge of the media cell. It emphasizes the institute’s commitment to provide top-notch medical treatment while upholding ecological responsibility.
