At the Delhi airport, there were 3 different smuggling cases involving 5 people

Five individuals have been detained by Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport’s Air Customs in three distinct incidents of smuggling after 6522 grams of gold worth Rs. 3.43 crore were discovered hidden in their clothing and rectum.

“AirCustoms@IGIA have opened three different cases of smuggling after recovering and seizing 6522 grams of gold that five passengers had hidden in their clothing and rectum. The gold confiscated is worth Rs. 3.43 Cr. Additional inquiries are being made, the Delhi Customs (Airport and General) said on X.

 

In a statement, the Customs department said that on August 13 against five Indian national passengers who arrived at T-3, IGI Airport New Delhi by Flight Nos. EY218 of Etihad Airways from Abu Dhabi and Flight No. 6E 1464 of Indigo Airlines from Dubai, officers of Airport Customs at Terminal-3 of Delhi Airport had filed three separate cases of gold smuggling.

 

 

One passenger tried to sneak the money disguised in his rectum. The other passengers tried to hide the gold in their purses and pants. Following the search, gold that was found weighed 6522 grams overall and had a tariff value of Rs. 3.42 crore.

According to Section 110 of the 1962 Customs Act, the found gold has been confiscated. In accordance with section 104 of the Customs Act of 1962, three passengers have been put under custody. Further inquiry is being conducted, according to the statement.

 

Eight travelers were detained earlier on Wednesday by airport customs officers at the Delhi Airport after they were discovered hiding gold worth Rs 2.92 crore in a luggage cart.

A senior Customs officer said that hiding gold in the luggage carts seen at airports is a new method of gold smuggling. Based on intelligence inputs, the action was carried out.

 

Customs said in a statement that eight Uzbekistan citizens who came from Tashkent to Delhi on Flight No. HY 421 at Terminal 3 of Delhi Airport on August 15 had been profiled by authorities at IGI airport, leading to the booking of a case of gold smuggling.

“Five males and three women travellers from Uzbekistan were among the detained travelers. They were all taken into custody. To determine where the illegal gold was sent, the matter is being investigated, the officer added.
