“Better than in Bengal,” J&K L-G Manoj Sinha claims about the security situation in Kashmir, drawing criticism

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha claimed on Friday at an event in Kolkata that received harsh condemnation from the governing Trinamool Congress (TMC) that the security situation in Kashmir is better than that of West Bengal.

When questioned subsequently, Sinha, however, cautioned against “twisting” his words politically, stating that his intention was to make comparisons between the law and order conditions in Bengal and Kashmir. “My comments shouldn’t be taken too literally; what I meant to say was that security in Kashmir is just as good as it is in Bengal.”

TMC spokesman Kunal Ghosh responded to Sinha’s remarks by advising him “not to misuse the chair of the Lieutenant Governor.”

One day before, in the Rajouri area of J&K, two Indian Army trucks were attacked by a gang of terrorists, resulting in the deaths of four troops. This was mentioned by the L-G. The terrorists allegedly disfigured two of the fallen troops. White Knight Corps, also known as XVI Corps, posted on X (previously Twitter) with the following message: “Indian Army and White Knight Corps salute the bravery and supreme sacrifice of four soldiers in Surankote yesterday while fighting the scourge of terrorism.”

In addition to denouncing the incident, Sinha mentioned Pakistan subtly and said that “our neighbor” was upsetting the tranquility in the valley. It’s an extremely tragic and depressing occurrence. Such brutality is condemned by us. Such actions by our neighbors have been disrupting the tranquility in the valley. However, it is all for nothing, as terrorism in Kashmir is nearing its demise.

Additionally, he said that compared to prior times, the security situation in Kashmir has much improved with the repeal of Article 370 from the Indian Constitution.

J&K is now on a historic course after the repeal of Article 370. The industrial development now has a strong base. Those looking to expand will be prudent to invest in J&K,” he said.
