BJP flagrantly lied when giving TN Rs 5.5L cr from the federal government: MK Stalin

The BJP’s assertion that the federal government gave Tamil Nadu Rs 10.76 lakh crore during the previous ten years was denounced as a flagrant fraud by Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday. Stalin said that instead, TN received Rs 5.5 lakh crore, whereas Uttar Pradesh received Rs 18.5 lakh crore within the same time frame.

The chief of the DMK, in a post on X, made reference to election advertisements published by the BJP in Sunday’s newspapers. The advertisements claimed that the national party’s union government had “generously” allocated Rs 10.76 lakh crore to the state. However, the chief of the party also revealed other “fraudulent accounts” under several headings, including the Sagarmala project (Rs 2 lakh crore), the Chennai Metro Rail project (Rs 63,246 crore), and the AIIMS hospital (Rs 1,960 crore) in Madurai. According to him, not a single cent has been given to the CMRL or Sagarmala projects, nor has the AIIMS hospital been constructed.

“Where are the proceeds from the TN government going?”

Thus, he said, “the BJP-led union government is trying to hoodwink the people of Tamil Nadu by reeling out these false claims.” Stalin clarified that the transfer of cash from the union government consists of two parts: The Union Finance Commission’s suggestion calls for the first kind of devolution of funds: direct devolution.

As a result, UP received Rs 18.5 lakh crore while TN received Rs 5.5 lakh crore. The distribution of cash for programs that the federal government will directly execute in the states makes up the second element. He said that the BJP has presented several incorrect reports about the second component.

Stalin questioned, “The BJP has included Rs 2.5 lakh crore of loans availed by MSMEs in TN as amount given by the BJP government,” daring the federal ministers to provide specifics about the money spent on these projects over the last ten years. The BJP has concocted the biggest deception ever, and this is it. Please don’t listen to us.

How much deception can the nation take? In response to the chief minister’s accusations, BJP state president K Annamalai said in a post on X that Udhayanidhi Stalin, the minister of sports, has been asserting that the central government has provided just Rs 1.7 lakh crore, whilst the chief minister claims the State has got Rs 5.5 lakh crore.

Which account would you use to hold the money that the federal government spends on enhancing roads, train stations, harbors, airports, and grants for the programs that are being carried out in Tamil Nadu? Does this imply that these programs are not supported by the federal government because you are unable to put your “tag” on them?” he questioned.

Could you please clarify what you are doing with the tax money you get from TASMAC income? For example, are you raising taxes for electricity that doesn’t exist, home tax, property tax, drinking water charges, registration fees, milk prices, etc.? Given that the TN government receives 70% of this money directly, why are workers in Tamil Nadu, including teachers and transportation staff, protesting? Where does the Tamil Nadu government get all of its revenue? Annamalai asked a query.

He said that while the chief minister has been inquiring about it constantly, federal ministers had promised that the AII MS hospital will be operational in Madurai by 2026.
