BKU (Charuni) is hosting a nonviolent protest

In an effort to show its support for the protesting farmers, the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni) has agreed to stage a tractor parade on February 17 and keep the toll plazas open for business for three hours tomorrow.

In order to determine the next course of action, the union has also asked all farmers’ unions, sarpanch organizations, and khap panchayats to a meeting on February 18 in Kurukshetra.

Following a meeting of the union’s office bearers in Kurukshetra, BKU (Charuni) head Gurnam Singh said, “We can’t leave the farmers alone on the roads because of the decisions of some leaders.” During the unrest, several farmers have sustained injuries. We’ve made the decision to back them.

“In Haryana, the union will stage nonviolent demonstrations.” We extend an invitation to all khap panchayats, sarpanch organizations, and farmer unions to maintain the toll plazas open tomorrow from midday to three o’clock. Our units in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab will protest locally as well. Speaking to journalists, he said that a combined assembly of several unions and groups will convene in Brahma Sarovar on Sunday to determine the next steps. At the Shambhu border, the situation remained calm after two days of activity.

According to a top official, tear gas was not used today since there was no violent protest activity.
