Case of Gyanvapi Mosque: Varanasi Court grants access to both sides to the ASI report

The Varanasi court decided on Wednesday to provide the Archaeological Survey’s findings to the Hindu and Muslim parties in the ongoing lawsuit involving the Gynvapi mosque.

It has been informed that an affidavit in this respect must be submitted by the parties involved.

Following the submission of the ASI report on the Gyanvapi Mosque complex in a sealed cover to the Varanasi District Court on December 18, Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, who was representing the Hindu side in the case, petitioned the court to make the ASI report public. The report, according to him, “cannot be filed in a sealed cover”.

Regarding the ASI survey
ASI conducted a thorough examination of the Gyanvapi grounds, which are next to the Kashi Vishwanath temple, in an attempt to determine if the 17th-century mosque was built over an existing Hindu temple construction.

After the Allahabad High Court decided that the action was “necessary in the interest of justice” and would help both the Muslim and Hindu sides of the conflict, the survey was launched.

The Gyanvapi committee appealed the Allahabad High Court’s ruling to the Supreme Court.

In August of last year, the Supreme Court turned down a high court decision regarding the ASI survey.
