Chandigarh: 17 people facing water waste charges

Residents received a total of 17 challans (Rs 5,512 each) on the first day of the Municipal Corporation’s yearly campaign today for squandering water.

In addition, 57 individuals received notifications from the MC after inspection teams discovered leaky pipes or overflowing overhead or subsurface tanks on their individual properties.

During the yearly drive, which takes place from April 15 to June 30, challans are invited to water lawns and courtyards and wash automobiles and other vehicles with a water hose. If MC crews discover leaks in tanks, taps, meters, or water coolers, notices are sent out. Notices were delivered to the residents today, and they were instructed to rectify the leak within two days. The majority of infractions were discovered when people used hoses to wash their vehicles and courtyards.

The punishment has climbed to Rs 5,512 this year from Rs 5,250 the previous year, a 5% increase. The notifications’ non-compliance would result in a Rs 5,512 punishment. The fee will be applied to the offending party’s water bill if it is not paid.
