DC directs authorities to expedite efforts at de-addiction therapy

In addition to rehabilitation efforts, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal asked the members of the Narco Coordination Center (NCORD) mechanism in Jalandhar and the District De-addiction and Rehabilitation Society’s governing body on Friday to step up their awareness campaigns about the negative effects of drugs.

Dr. Aggarwal presided over a meeting of the NCORD mechanism and the governing body of the District De-addiction and Rehabilitation Society, Jalandhar, and stated that raising awareness of the negative effects of drugs, particularly in educational institutions, should be society’s top priority in order to direct young people’s energy in the right directions.

In addition, the departments of technical education, Red Cross, District Sports Officers, School Education, and DEO have been requested to personally oversee the district-wide awareness programs. In order to integrate drug victims into society and make them partners in its advancement, the DC also requested that they provide them possibilities for skill development and employment.

He said that because the average person may have a big impact on the battle on drugs, they should actively participate in the struggle against narcotics. He said that in order to increase the effectiveness of awareness campaigns, department representatives, opinion leaders, and religious organizations would need to collaborate.

In addition to personnel positions, financial expenditures, and the operations of an NGO, SUN Foundation, in Sheikhe village, the DC also examined the operation of de-addiction centers in Jalandhar/Noormahal and Sheikhe village. In addition, he examined the supply of medications at the district’s 28 OATT clinics.

Within the following ten days, Dr. Aggarwal requested that the relevant departments—health, agriculture, and police, among others—submit the action taken report on drug abuse, rehabilitation, etc. He said that the district would not permit the operation of any unapproved drug de-addiction centers and that anybody who did so would face harsh penalties.

In order to start an awareness campaign in the impacted regions, he requested that police department personnel identify the drug-use hotspots. Among the attendees at the meeting were Amarjit Bains, the Additional Commissioner, the MC (Jalandhar), SDMs Balbir Raj and Dr. Jai Inder Singh, as well as representatives from other departments.
