Delhi BJP Demonstrates Against AAP Government Due To Waterlogging, Claiming Corruption In Drain Desilting

On Monday, the Delhi BJP demonstrated against the discomfort that widespread waterlogging on several roads and stretches around the city was causing to its citizens near the AAP headquarters at DDU Marg.

Virendra Sachdeva, the head of the Delhi BJP, said that the desilting of the city’s sewers was a “scam”.

As a result of the city’s roads, colonies, and marketplaces being under water, he claimed that the drains had not been cleaned and that the funds for doing so had been misused.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) did not immediately respond to the demonstration or the saffron party’s accusations. Speaking to the crowd, Sachdeva also criticized AAP leader and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for doing political campaigning when the city was experiencing severe flooding and traffic congestion.

When Delhi was experiencing waterlogging yesterday, Kejriwal was running for office in Panchkula, Haryana. He should feel guilty for subjecting them to waterlogging and traffic congestion. I’ve never seen Delhi in such a mess as it has become over the last two days, the man said.

The 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Sunday had the most rainfall (153 mm) on a single day in July for the national capital since 1982. The situation worsened when 107 mm more rain fell on the city in the next 24 hours. The Delhi Police halted the BJP demonstrators behind a roadblock as they attempted to march from ITO toward the AAP headquarters. The security guards stopped anybody attempting to pass the barrier.

The AAP is in charge of the government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), according to the head of the Delhi BJP.

Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, the leader of the opposition in the Delhi Assembly, also criticized the Kejriwal administration and called for a high-level investigation into allegations of corruption in the desilting of drains.

He said, “The BJP demands that a high-level probe be conducted into the theft of Rs 3,000 crore budget for drain desilting.

Raja Iqbal Singh, the MCD opposition leader, said that Delhi residents are now aware that the previous BJP-run corporation managed to maintain optimum cleanliness and little waterlogging despite having few resources.

The BJP’s almost 15-year hold on the former civic bodies came to an end when the AAP won the MCD elections last year.
