Farmers in Kondli, a border town, protest the crippling of everyday life

Earlier this year, Punjabi farmers launched a protest march to the national capital over “unmet promises by the Centre,” which sent fear across Delhi’s border region Kondli.

In Kondli, heavy security was implemented to stop the march; roads were blocked and routes were rerouted, severely impairing daily activities. Several locals claim that their assembly’s position near the Delhiā€“UP boundary is now causing them problems.

A hamlet called Kondli is located outside of Delhi’s Trans-Yamuna district. It has excellent connections to Noida and Ghaziabad and is located close to the UP border.

Residents have been complaining about things like drug misuse, robbery, women’s safety, poor sanitation, waiting for the colonies to be regularized, and irregular water supplies.

“Things have never changed here, therefore it doesn’t matter which party wins or which candidate emerges from our assembly. One resident, Shailendra Singh, observed, “The law and order issue is compounded by the poor state of basic utilities including infrastructure, water, sanitation, and sewage.

Population

Kondli has a population that speaks several languages, making it resemble a multilingual city. In addition to Kondli, the assembly also consists of New Kondli, a resettlement colony established after 1990. It is close to Vasundhra Enclave, Noida sector-11, and Mayur Vihar Phase 3.

There were 1,91,203 eligible voters for the 2020 election; 1,03,863 of them were men, 87,328 were women, and 12 were voters of a third gender.

AAP has won three of the previous seven significant elections, followed by the BJP twice and the Congress twice.

Kondli gained notoriety lately when Sunita, the wife of Chief Minister Arvind Kejiwal, supported AAP candidate Kuldeep Kumar for East Delhi on April 27 by holding her first-ever vote roadshow here. Harsh Malhotra, the Delhi-BJP unit’s general secretary, is the candidate put out by the BJP.Delhi will host the Lok Sabha elections on May 25. The results will be announced on June 4.
