Following government inaction, Andhra villagers construct a bridge using their own funds

The hamlet of Annavaram is located in Andhra Pradesh’s Anakapalli district. Years went by with the problem remaining, but it was only recently resolved by the locals themselves. A rook must be passed in the hamlet, which is part of the Chodavaram gram panchayat, particularly while going to and from Raiwada. Normally, there isn’t much water in the rook, which makes it simple to cross. During the wet season, it floods, making it quite challenging to cross to the other side. Since years ago, the residents of Annavaram have been pleading for action to be made in this respect. They have been pleading with the local political elite to construct a bridge over the rook. A bridge was being built a few years ago, but the project was put on hold due to a change in administration, leaving the area in worse condition than before.

In the past, deadly incidents have resulted in people falling over or being electrocuted since the only item to hang on to while traversing the area was an electricity pole. Some obedient adolescents from the hamlet stepped up to take the problem into their own hands after seeing the local political leaders’ indifference to the situation. They made the choice to use their own funds to pay for the bridge’s construction. The bridge’s construction was funded by contributions from Amy Srinu, Pechchetty Naidu, Gutala Piedraju, Pulleti Shankar, Arjuna, Bujji, Nemala Naidu, Erramshetty Chinna, and Pulleti Gangadhar.

40 female farm workers offered to help them with their jobs after seeing their perseverance. The young people in Annavaram village finished constructing a bridge across the rook after resolving concerns with financial backing and human labor. By using their finances to construct a bridge, everyone is applauding their job in a manner that puts politicians, political parties, and government employees in the dock.
