Following the passage of the women’s reservation bill in the Lok Sabha, the BJP called it a “historic leap.” Shashi Tharoor said, “Bit of Jumla”

According to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, India has made history with the passing of the Women Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha. Shashi Tharoor, a veteran of the Congress, on the other hand, claims that although it is positive that the Bill was approved, there is some “jumla” due to the mention of delimitation and the census, as well as the ambiguity surrounding its implementation.

The Constitution (One Hundred Twenty-Eighth Amendment) Bill, 2023, often known as the Women Reservation Bill, was approved by the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. It will now go to the Rajya Sabha. It will then be presented to the President of India for signature into law. 434 MPs voted in favor of passing the measure, leaving 2 lawmakers in the Lower House.

leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party When the Women Reservation Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Amit Shah tweeted on X, saying, “It is a historic leap for our nation as the Lok Sabha passes the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ today.” In addition, he gave the administration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi high praise, adding, “The law conceived by PM @narendramodi Ji will not only create a new chapter in the history of women’s empowerment but will also nurture equitable and gender-inclusive growth in our country. It reaffirms the commitment of the Modi administration to female leadership in governance.

The Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Eighth Amendment) Bill, 2023 was approved by the Lok Sabha with a remarkable amount of support, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his thanks to the ministers who voted to adopt the measure. I appreciate the support of MPs from all parties who voted in favor of this Bill. A significant piece of legislation called the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam will help women become more politically active and empower them even more.

“It was no less than a celebration when we passed the first milestone of Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women’s Reservation Bill) today,” said Smriti Irani, the Union Minister for Women and Child Development. I appreciate PM Modi for providing a constitutional guarantee to the women who will govern tomorrow.

Also speaking to PTI on the bill’s passing, Union Minister Anurag Thakur stated, “I thank all the MPs who voted in favor of Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women’s Reservation Bill).” by 454 votes in favor and 2 votes against, it was approved today by a margin of more than two thirds. This demonstrates that the Modi-led administration has accomplished what no one has hitherto been able to achieve in the Lok Sabha.

Shiv Sena (Uddhav Bala Thackeray) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi responded by expressing her tremendous happiness over the bill’s approval and referring to it as a historic occasion. She told PTI, “It is a historic moment, a time that makes me incredibly pleased but emotional as well. Because I had hoped that this would occur during my time in the Parliament. The fact that this legislation has not yet been enacted for immediate execution is the only thing stopping me from really rejoicing.

Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders questioned the bill’s inclusion of women from Other Backward Classes. Other influential people agreed with the idea, and they discussed it after the measure was passed. According to Dimple Yadav, head of the Samajwadi Party, “The elections are scheduled for 2024. The INDIA alliance is prepared for the electoral battle. I have complete confidence that when the INDIA bloc becomes the government, we would endeavor to provide OBC and minority women’s rights (reservation).

AIMIM head Asaduddin Owaisi cited the lack of reservations for women from other backward classes, despite the fact that they make up a significant portion of the population, as the justification for his organization’s opposition to the measure. In addition, he brought up the fact that Muslim women make up only 0.7% of the Lok Sabha and questioned how the system would function without them.

Shashi Tharoor, a seasoned member of Congress, commented on the bill’s approval, saying that “it is a bit of a jumla.” “It is good that the bill got passed but we have concerns,” Tharoor told the media. “It is a bit of a Jhumla because of reference to delimitation and census, neither of which has been scheduled, making it very unclear when this (the bill) will actually be implemented.”

Sitaram Yechury, the head of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), said that the bill’s passage has “been expected for 25 years” and added that “questions like separate quotas for SCs, STs, and OBCs were raised when the Bill was previously submitted before the Rajya Sabha. These were not resolved. The government’s responsibility is to directly address these.

On Wednesday, Telangana’s ruling BRS MLC K Kavitha applauded the Women’s Reservation Bill’s approval in the Lok Sabha while announcing that she would work to get a quota for women from underprivileged groups. Although it was conceivable, Kavitha described as “deplorable” the “Centre’s unwillingness to implement women’s reservations from the next elections.” Women having to wait another five years is “painful,” she was quoted as saying in a press statement from her office.

“It is a symbolic bill. For it to come into effect, two steps have to be crossed: we have to conduct a census, which we haven’t done since 2011, and then we also have to conduct a delimitation, which will be very difficult to do,” said Congressman Karti P. Chidambaram.

OBC reservations are still waiting, but INDIA bloc parties thought that this law should be approved, and for the rest, we can find solutions, CPI MP Binoy Viswam said ANI.India supports the bill’s passage.
