Following the SC’s ruling on Article 370, NC president Farooq Abdullah exclaims, “Let J&K go to hell,” to which the BJP responds

Chief of the National Conference Farooq Abdullah sparked a controversy on Tuesday when, in response to a question about the Supreme Court’s ruling on the repeal of Article 370, he passionately said, “Let Jammu and Kashmir go to hell.”

Abdullah seemed to be frustrated when the reporter questioned him about the ruling of the Supreme Court.

He said, “Let Jammu and Kashmir go to hell. They betrayed people.” It is their goal to win people over. If you did such things to drive people away, how would you win that?

The BJP responded to the situation by claiming that Abdullah’s remarks had shown the real nature of the Opposition.

The National Congress stalwart came out in support of Jawahar Lal Nehru after the BJP accused him of being responsible for decades of violence and instability in Jammu and Kashmir as well as the special constitutional privileges granted to the former state under Article 370. The former was in the US at the time the special provision was introduced.

He said that Syama Prasad Mukherjee, the founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the then-Union Home Minister, were engaged in the process of granting the former state exceptional constitutional protections.

“I’m not sure why the BJP is so bitter with (Pandit Jawaharlal) Nehru. It is not Nehru’s fault that J-K is granted special status under Article 370. Pandit Nehru was in America and Sardar Patel was present in Parliament when this article (370) was brought up. Syama Prasad Mukherjee was also present in the cabinet meeting about the imposition of the special constitutional clause. The decision was made during this meeting, according to Abdullah.

According to Abdullah, there is optimism that the Supreme Court would order the Center to hold early elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a historic decision on Monday, the top court upheld Jammu and Kashmir’s removal of Article 370 and gave the Centre till September of the next year to reinstate statehood and conduct elections in the region.

“We want elections in Kashmir to happen right now, but the Supreme Court granted them till September. He said, “Where’s the justice?”
