Former Haryana JJP Chief Nishan Singh Joins Congress After BJP-Alliance Split

On Monday, Nishan Singh, the former head of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) in Haryana, became a member of the Congress.

Following the JJP’s breakup with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Haryana, the former MLA for Tohana announced his resignation from the party on April 8 and submitted his resignation letter to Ajay Chautala, the national president, the following day.

Nishan was a significant leader of the JJP and had the trust of senior party members. He was a former MLA from Fatehabad, having represented the Tohana sector.

After being first elected in 2000 on the Indian National Lok Dal’s (INLD) platform from the Tohana assembly seat, he lost in the elections that followed in 2005, 2009, and 2014.

The JJP supported Devender Singh Babli of the Congress, who defeated Subhash Barala, the state leader of the BJP, in the 2019 elections. Many of the BJP’s leaders have left the party in the wake of its decision to cut relations with the JJP.
