Gujarat FIR: Upper Caste Group Brutally Attacked A Dalit Man And His Mother Filed

In Gujarat’s Banaskantha district, a horrible event reportedly took place as a gang of people from an upper caste society allegedly viciously attacked a Dalit guy and his mother. The victim was wearing well-dressed apparel and sunglasses, which the assailants apparently found offensive. Jigar Shekhalia, the victim, filed a complaint, which resulted in the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against the seven alleged attackers.

The incident allegedly occurred on Tuesday night when one of the accused approached Jigar outside of his home. The accused complained about Jigar’s “elevated status” and threatened to kill him verbally and otherwise. Later that night, Jigar was challenged by six people with Rajput surnames who were carrying sticks and standing close to a small temple. Before they launched their vicious assault and dragged him into a local dairy parlour, they questioned his choice of attire and sunglasses.

When Jigar’s mother hurried to his rescue, she was instead attacked, including having her clothing torn and receiving threats of violence. After receiving the report, the police lodged a FIR at the Gadh police station. The Indian Penal Code (IPC) relevant provisions, which encompass offences including rioting, illegal assembly, outraging a woman’s modesty, inflicting harm, and using abusive words, have been utilised to prosecute the accused. The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act also holds them accountable for their actions.

According to police sources, no arrests have yet been made in relation to the event. While the community struggles to come to terms with the horrifying act of caste-based violence that has shook the hamlet, the Dalit guy and his mother are presently getting medical attention for the injuries they incurred during the attack.
