HC Rejects PIL To Declare Shahi Idgah Mosque Site As Lord Krishna’s Birthplace

A PIL requesting that the Shahi Idgah Mosque in the Mathura region of Uttar Pradesh be recognized as Krishna Janambhoomi, or the birthplace of Lord Krishna, has been rejected by the Allahabad High Court.

On Wednesday, a two-judge panel chaired by Chief Justice Pritinkar Diwakar and Justice Ashutosh Srivastava issued the ruling on the PIL submitted by attorney Mahek Maheshwari and others.

On September 4, the bench had already postponed making a decision on the matter.

According to the PIL, the Shahi Idgah Mosque should be demolished since it was constructed on the location of Krishna’s birthplace.

In order to construct a temple on the Krishna Janmabhoomi Janmasthan site, the petitioner had requested that the land be “handed over to the Hindus and a proper trust be formed.”

Prior to the petition’s resolution, the petitioner had also asked for permission for Hindus to attend prayers at the mosque on certain days of the week and during the Janmashtami holiday (Lord Krishna’s birthday).

Additionally, the petitioner requested that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) excavate the building under the supervision of the court.

Although the court issued the dismissal order on Wednesday, the full verdict is still pending.
