In Maharashtra LS elections, Uddhav’s Shiv Sena is expected to surpass Shinde’s group in numbers

The Shiv Sena (UBT), headed by Uddhav Thackeray, would not give up even one more seat to its coalition partners, and in the next Lok Sabha polls, Maharashtra Chief Minister and Sena leader Eknath Shinde will have to remove his party’s current members.

Uddhav Thackeray has chosen to run for 22 Lok Sabha seats in the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition, while the Congress will run for 14 and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) for ten seats.

Although the Sena has sitting Lok Sabha MPs in Ramtek and Kolhapur, Uddhav Thackeray has refused to relinquish his two Lok Sabha seats to the Congress party, claiming that the Congress party has rightfully claimed the ancient Sangali Lok Sabha seat. But CM Eknath Shinde was selected by both of the current Lok Sabha MPs to head Shiv Sena.

The Shiv Sena, headed by Uddhav Thackeray, ran for 23 Lok Sabha seats in 2019 and won 18, while the BJP ran for 25 seats and won 22 in Maharashtra.

Conversely, the Shiv Sena, headed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, plans to run for 11–13 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Shinde had earlier pushed on 18 Lok Sabha seats, but the BJP refused to give up more, citing the internal survey’s negative findings on the Shiv Sena’s current MPs. It was thus necessary to remove these current Lok Sabha MPs.

Furthermore, Sena’s historically held seats have had to be given up to the BJP and coalition allies, including Dharashiv, Nasik, Raigad, Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri, according to Chief Minister Shinde.

In addition, the BJP made him substitute the candidate of its choosing in Jalna, Washim, and Ramtek.

“CM Eknath Shinde found it very difficult to appease the unhappy leaders and contenders. The BJP will run for 28 to 30 Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 elections, up from 25 seats in the last general elections, since Shinde was compelled to give up a significant amount of space to the party. The number of seats that the BJP is contesting has grown, while the fronts headed by Shinde and Ajit Pawar will be contesting fewer seats than in the Lok Sabha elections of 2019. Thus, persuading their followers to support Shinde and Pawar’s coalition candidates is a significant challenge ahead of them,” he said.
