In the FEMA case, ED summons Niranjan and Darshan Hiranandani

The Enforcement Directorate has summoned Niranjan Hiranandani and his son Darshan Hiranandani, the promoters of the well-known real estate firm Hiranandani Group, of Mumbai, to appear in court on Monday, February 26 in connection with a case involving a foreign currency violation.

The Hiranandanis have been requested to appear in person at the Mumbai headquarters of the central investigative agency today to provide testimony in the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 (FEMA) violation case.

According to reports, the Hiranandanis have the option to provide their main answers via a designated representative. Notably, Darshan Hiranandani has spent a significant amount of time residing in Dubai.

The FEMA case involving the Hinandani Group
In accordance with the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), the ED searched around four Hiranandani Group locations in and around Mumbai last week.

Aside from some international transactions, the agency is also investigating the beneficiaries of a trust established in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) that is purportedly connected to the founders of the Hiranandani Group.

The organization has said that it would assist the ED in this FEMA probe.

MAHUA MITRA’S LINK TO HIRANANDANIS
According to official sources, there is no connection between the ED inquiry and the ongoing FEMA investigation into Mahua Moitra, the leader of the TMC, who was removed from the Lok Sabha in December of last year.

Nishikant Dubey, a BJP MP, has accused Moitra of using the Lok Sabha to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Adani Group at Darshan Hiranandani’s request in return for presents.

Additionally, Dubey had charged Moitra with jeopardizing national security in order to enrich himself.

Moitra has denied any misconduct and said that she was singled out due to her inquiries on transactions with the Adani Group.
