In the instance of the Rs 20L bribery, Punjab VB has two days to house SP Gagnesh Kumar

The Vigilance Bureau (VB) obtained a two-day police remand of SP Gagnesh Kumar from a local court here today in order to look into the possible involvement of an IGP-rank official in a Rs 20 lakh bribery case.

The VB informed the court that in order to confirm the bribery claims made against an IGP-rank officer, the SP needed to be questioned.

In June of last year, a complaint was filed against two people and an SP, DSP, and SI of the Faridkot police for allegedly accepting bribes to renominate the principal culprit in the murder case of Dayal Das, the deputy head of Harka Das Dera, Kot Sukhia village. The day of Dayal’s death was November 7, 2019.

Gagnesh and a businessman named Jaswinder Singh were apprehended on March 5, while the VB had already detained the DSP, SI, and the head of a gaushala. The SP, who was not prosecuted as an accused in this case, had stated in his bail request that the IGP was the one who received the bribe money.

On February 28, the Punjab and Haryana High Court refused Gagnesh’s request for anticipatory release, citing prima facie irrefutable evidence that suggests the participation of the SP in the case.
