Comedian Sonu Venugopal: Making an impression

Sonu Venugopal, a comedian from the city, didn’t see many Kannada movies while he was little. She grew up watching Bollywood movies and moved all around the nation due to her father’s “very transferable” career. However, a few years ago, she made the decision to return from Switzerland and pursue a career in comedy, and she choose Kannada as her medium. My writing doesn’t mainly depend on pop culture allusions since I wasn’t exposed to Kannada literature or movies. My deepest ties to

My mother language, Kannada, is spoken at home with relatives. Actually, I grew up watching Bollywood movies, but I also like Anant Nag’s 1990s work. They seem to be both highly relatable and have tasteful humor. That’s my goal in my profession,” the 34-year-old former radio host said.

Venugopal, one of the most well-known comedians in Kannada, will be the main attraction in Kannada at the 2018 multilingual SoTruly Indian comedy festival. The event is scheduled for this weekend and will showcase more than 70 comedians from all across the nation, including Punit Punia, Gurleen Pannu, and Aashish Solanki.

The fact that it has lineups in Hindi, English, and Kannada is awesome. Thus, a variety of subjects and feelings that appeal to various age groups should be expected from the audience. That’s one of the reasons I like making lineups. “It’s like a movie for the audience; they’ll get a little bit of this and a little bit of that,” adds Venugopal, who was most recently seen in Aachar & Co.

Renowned for her comedic delivery in a genuine accent from north Karnataka, Venugopal’s unique style has been a major factor in her success. “In comedy, I wanted to do more than simply be noticeable. I felt it was imperative to confront the misconceptions, particularly with relation to the inaccurate portrayal of north Karnataka in popular Kannada culture.

Aside from that, I speak Kannada at home, namely the north Karnataka dialect, so it was simple for me to express myself,” she continues. “The Kannada comedy scene was dominated by elderly comedians like Pranesh sir around seven or eight years ago,” she continues. Younger voices that might discuss contemporary relationships or business life were lacking.

Meanwhile, Venugopal has gained recognition from all over the globe for her comedy spectacular Punyakoti, which has taken her beyond Bengaluru.

Her performances in England last year surpassed her expectations, even in spite of her early “self-doubt.” Although Kannada comics have visited this location in the past, this was a ticketed event. For a particular occasion, a Kannada Sangha would usually extend an invitation to you. However, paid events attract those who are really passionate about standup, according to Venugopal, who is now preparing for her April performances in Australia.
