In the Tripura byelections, Tipra Motha and Congress will not field candidates

There won’t be any candidates from Tipra Motha or Congress in the byelection for two Tripura assembly seats.

Animesh Debbarma, the leader of the opposition in the Tripura Assembly, said that Tipra Motha would not run a candidate in the byelection for the Dhanpur and Boxanagar Assembly seats.

“Contesting elections requires a lot of resources, including cash, labor, and time. Additionally, it looks like the governing party benefits if votes are split among the opposition parties, he said, according to PTI.

Debbarma said that Tipra Motha is neither ‘Lal Motha’ nor a BJP ally. According to him, the party has its own philosophy and devotion to the populace.

The party that the Tipra Motha should endorse in the byelection is the subject of ongoing discussion… By August 19, we would take a position, he promised.

Debbarma said that the party and the BJP had never held discussions.

We are now discussing our requests with the central government. No BJP representative said that the group had begun negotiations with the Tipra Motha, he continued.

Asish Kumar Saha, the head of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee, said on Thursday that the party will respect the opposition bloc’s INDIA by not running in the byelections in Dhanpur and Boxanagar.

In accordance with the TPCC and Delhi leadership’s decision, we would not run in the byelections. The Congress does not want to diminish the opposition vote base in the byelection despite having launched an anti-BJP platform called INDIA to unite the anti-BJP forces. That is the reason the party decided not to run in the byelections, he added.

Candidates have already been nominated by the CPI(M), an ally of INDIA, for the byelections to the Dhanpur and Boxanagar Assembly seats. September 5 will see the byelections.

The CPI(M)-led Left Front and Congress jointly ran in the most recent Assembly elections, whereas Tipra, which had established itself as the major opposition party by gaining 13 seats, ran on its own.
