India is asked to back Ukraine’s proposal to end the conflict with Russia

NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reiterated India’s commitment to stepping up bilateral cooperation with the war-torn nation during a “comprehensive” conversation with his visiting counterpart Dmytro Kuleba about efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

India said that it will support any attempt at a peaceful conclusion to the conflict, which has been raging for more than two years and shows no signs of stopping.
As anticipated, Kuleba asked India to assist in organising a potential peace conference that would take place in Switzerland this summer, as well as to support President Volodymyr Zelensky’s 10-point peace formula, which he had presented to G7 leaders in 2022.

Among other things, the plan calls for Russia’s soldiers to completely leave Ukrainian land. India has not yet formally denounced Russia’s activities in Ukraine, nor has it declared its support for Zelensky’s peace proposal.
“We spoke about the current situation and its broader implications. exchanged opinions on a number of projects within that framework,” Jaishankar wrote on X after his “wide-ranging and frank” discussions with Kuleba.

At the conference, Kuleba said that the peace formula and the next stages in its execution were given “specific attention.” “We also co-chaired the Ukrainian-Indian intergovernmental commission review meeting and agreed to restore the level of cooperation between our countries that existed prior to the full-scale war launched by Russia,” said Kuleba.
