ISIS Module Case Accused Returned To Judicial Custody After NIA’s Request For Further Remand Was Rejected

In the most recent development in the ISIS module case, a special court on Monday rejected the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) request for additional detention and ordered the two accused, Zubair Shaikh and Zulfikar Ali, to be sent back to judicial custody. The pair had previously been sent to judicial prison by the special NIA court and was one of the four people who had been detained by the NIA earlier this month in connection with the ISIS module case.

On the basis of the NIA’s assertion that the two suspects had given “fund and shelter” to two other suspects who had been captured by the Pune branch of the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in a different case, the court last Friday had awarded custody of Zubair Shaikh and Zulfikar Ali to the NIA till July 31.

The NIA claimed to have learned of the arrest of two people by the ATS in Rajasthan in connection with a case involving terrorism. They thought these people had conducted reconnaissance at six to seven different locations across the nation, with Shaikh and Ali giving them shelter and financial support, as PTI reported.

The NIA requested an additional 10-day detention period of the accused at Monday’s sessions, citing brand-new disclosures obtained during questioning. The agency made note of the fact that the suspects were communicating with witnesses and handlers using code phrases, necessitating more research and decoding.

Zubair Shaikh’s attorney, Zeeshan Khan, contended there weren’t any fresh justifications for wanting further time in detention under the current remand.

The accused was sent returned to judicial custody by the court after taking into account all of the grounds. The Pune ATS has also submitted a petition in connection with their case asking for custody of Zulfikar Ali, and the court is expected to hear their appeal on Tuesday.
