Kerala Lok Sabha Election 2024: Will CPI-M Win Or Can IUML Maintain Its Lead In Ponnani?

Ponnani Lok Sabha Constituency is one of Kerala’s 20 Lok Sabha Constituencies for the 2024 Lok Sabha Election. One of the first parliamentary seats to be created in Independent India was the Ponnani Lok Sabha seat. Since the 1977 Lok Sabha elections, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) in the area has had complete control over the seat, winning every general election held there up until 2019.

In the Lok Sabha elections of 2019, incumbent IUML MP E. T. Mohammed Basheer beat independent challenger P.V. . Anvar Puthan Veetil by a margin of 1,93,273 votes to win the Ponnani seat for the third time in a row.

In an election where a healthy 74 percent of voters cast ballots, Basheer earned 5,21,824 votes, while Veetil received 3,28,551 votes.

Phase 2 of the Lok Sabha polls will see elections for the Ponnani seat on April 26, 2024. Results will be announced on June 4 after the counting of ballots.

About the Lok Sabha Constituency of Ponnani
Due to its sizable Muslim voting base, the Ponnani Lok Sabha seat is unquestionably an IUML stronghold. The only party that is anticipated to give the IUML a serious fight in the approaching Lok Sabha Elections of 2024 is Kerala’s governing Communist Party of India (Marxist).

In the Ponnani constituency, national parties like the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are almost nonexistent, and there is little indication that this situation will change.

Phase 2 of the seven-phased Lok Sabha Elections 2024 will take place on April 26 and include elections for all 20 parliamentary seats in Kerala.
