Kerala surprise: A sorcerer’s spell causes a family to fail and commits two murders

Following the Elanthoor case in 2022, Keralites were acquainted with the terms “sorcery” and “human sacrifice.” The horrifying discovery of a double homicide at Kakkattukada in Kattappana now suggests that certain people and families are still held as slaves by sorcerers.

The confession made on Saturday by Nitheesh, 31, of Puthanpurackal house, has helped to solve the mystery surrounding the murders of Vidhya’s father and her newborn. At first, the statements made by the mentally unstable couple, Suma and Vidhya Vijayan, of Nellanickal house, confused the investigators.

Poor family under the power of a sorcerer

Before meeting Nitheesh while pursuing her postgraduate degree, Vidhya’s family, which also included her 27-year-old brother Vishnu and their parents, Vijayan and Suma, had everything going well. The whole family was influenced by Nitheesh, a sorcerer, because of his witchcraft. The family has been residing in several rental homes in the area for the last few years, and even their Kattappana home was sold at his direction, an intelligence wing officer told TNIE.

Vishnu was also affected by Nitheesh, and the robbery attempt at Kattappana—during which the police apprehended them—was only one of many robberies that the pair had carried out under Nitheesh’s instruction. He also succeeded in keeping the family hidden.

Reporters were informed by Rema Manoharan, a local ward member, that she was not aware that there were two ladies residing in the property.

Affair and murder of a kid

Nitheesh admitted to killing two people, the first of whom was his own four-day-old infant.

at 2016, Nitheesh informed the police that he had strangled the kid to prevent disgrace since Vidhya had not married him, and that he had buried the corpse at the leased property at Sagara Junction. The event and Nitheesh’s other unlawful acts were kept under wraps by the family because they too were afraid of societal disgrace.

However, in August 2023, when they were residing in a rented home in Kakkattukada, Nitheesh and Vijayan got into an argument that became violent, and during that exchange, he struck Vijayan fatally in the head with a hammer. Nitheesh admitted that Vijayan’s corpse was interred in the Kakkattukada residence.

He kept the episodes secret from the public because he anticipated that Vidhya and Suma would one day disclose them to someone. The two ladies were thus discovered to be locked up when the police arrived at the Kakkattukada residence. According to the intelligence officer, Vidhya and Suma became psychologically unbalanced due to Nitheesh’s actions and their isolated lifestyle.

Vidhya was placed in the care of her family, while Suma was moved by the police to a local assisted living facility. Vishnu is still receiving care at the MCH in Kottayam.

Healing bodies is essential

The police said that even with all of the admissions and testimonies, the recovery of Vijayan’s and the newborn’s remains would be vital to the investigation. The investigating team was unable to explore the burial locations on Saturday since Nitheesh was just taken into police custody at noon on that day. “We anticipate wrapping up the proceedings the following day. The remains have to be unearthed before the murder charges can proceed, the officer said.
