Mantri argues against the ‘circumcision test’ CAA outburst made by WB BJP neta

KOLKATA: Amid the controversy over Tathagata Roy, a BJP veteran, recommending a “circumcision test” to determine the religious identity of an applicant for citizenship under the Citizenship by Attainment Act, junior Union shipping minister Shantanu Thakur defended Roy on Wednesday.

A biological test, according to Thakur, was “well within existing rules.”. “I’ve seen his social media posts, and his remarks follow government regulations. This is a provision that is applied under medical supervision. “I don’t believe that the statement is abnormal,” Thakur said in Bongaon, North 24-Parganas, Bengal.
According to Thakur, regulations have been designed to provide citizenship to candidates from six different faith groups.
“Anyone who attempts to get citizenship from a group other than the six may be biologically verified. Without a doubt, it won’t be done in public, the minister said.
