Meham Pond trash, NGT notice to Chief Secy, Rohtak DM

Notices regarding the purported dumping of trash and filling of loose earth in a pond at Meham town in Rohtak district have been sent by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to the Haryana Chief Secretary, Rohtak District Magistrate (DM), member-secretary of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board, and local municipal authorities.

As per an application filed by Rakesh Bhardwaj and other complainants, the Darbari Mal pond at Meham had been filled with trash and untreated waste water, and a portion of the pond had been encroached upon by the land mafia. These orders were passed by Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi, Judicial Member, and Dr. Afroz Ahmad, Expert Member of the NGT.

“On the face of it, the claims stated in the application present environmental concerns that result from the application of the laws listed in Schedule I of the National Green Tribunal Act, 2010,” the decisions said.

March 13 has been set aside for further review of this topic.
