Mumbai: At the city airport, customs detectives seize eight iPhones and gold valued at Rs 3.73 crore

At the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai, customs officers confiscated eight iPhones and about 6.53 kilos of gold valued at Rs 3.73 crores in seven different instances.

The seizures took place on March 6 and 7, according to a statement released by Mumbai Customs Zone-III on its official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) page.

“The Airport Commissionerate, Mumbai Customs Zone-III, seized over 6.53 kg of gold valued at 3.73 crore and 8 iPhones across seven different cases between March 6-7,” said the Customs.

The article claims that the gold was found hidden in a number of locations, including headgear, internal cavities, clothes, passenger bodies, and even under the airplane’s toilet.

Earlier on March 6, in three different occurrences at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, officers from the Airport Commissionerate, Mumbai Customs Zone-III, seized around 2.08 kilogrammes of gold valued at Rs 1.14 crore, according to the .

Gold was hidden in purses, door mats, trash bag wraps, clothes, and check-in bags during the two-day seizures.

The report further said that the police are still vigilant in stopping smuggling operations at Mumbai International Airport and making sure that customs protocols are properly adhered to.

According to an official statement reported by, Mumbai Airport Customs authorities apprehended an Indian individual traveling from Dubai as part of a recent crackdown on smuggling and confiscated a cache of contraband, including gold jewelry, rhodium coins, and iPhones.

The passenger was found to be carrying 215.00 grammes (net) of items, including three coins coated in rhodium, five pieces of 24-karat gold jewelry, and chopped wire fragments. Two iPhones (Pro 128 GB) were also taken out of the person’s possession.

According to the ANI report, the gold jewelry was found on the passenger’s body by customs officers, whilst the gold-cut wires were concealed in Amul butter, a hanky, and clothes. The iPhones were concealed inside a handbag.

In a different incident, over the course of four days, Mumbai Customs seized 3.03 kg of gold valued at Rs 1.66 crore from 10 different cases at the city’s international airport.

The gold was found concealed in several locations, including airplane seats, passenger body cavities, a toilet, butter packets, handkerchiefs, and other apparel, according to ANI. The discovery was made by the Airport Commissionarate of Mumbai Customs between March 1 and 4.

Furthermore, news outlet ANI reports that during the course of three days, the Mumbai Customs Department seized 15.89 kg of gold worth around Rs 8.07 million in thirteen different occurrences.
