NEET PG 2024 to be Replaced by NeXT? What You Should Know

This month, the National Medical Commission (NMC) will probably examine the final instructions for the National Exit Test (NeXT). According to reports, the exam’s rules have been finalized and will shortly be submitted to the highest authority overseeing medical education. The National Entrance Completion Eligibility Test- NEET PG and the FMGE tests were originally intended to be replaced by the NeXT exam. The test was slated to start three years after NMO was established by the NMC Act, 2019, which took effect in 2020. The administration, however, has chosen to postpone its implementation until September 2024.

The NeXT test rules are in their final stages and will be handed to NMC later this month, according to sources in the Ministry of Health. The estimated test dates as well as the instructions are anticipated to be released.

On March 5, NEET PG 2023 was held, and registration is already open for FMGE 2023 June Session. Consequently, the test is probably going to be held in 2024 if the NeXT exam is adopted. A definitive decision, however, is anticipated to be made after the rules are completed about the NEET PG Exam.

According to early rumors, the NBE would administer the NeXT Exam after its merger with the National Medical Commission. The most recent changes, however, indicate that NBE may not be prepared to hold the NeXT exam on the required scale. According to reports, AIMS New Delhi is now a potential contender to host the NeXT Exam.

Once it is in place, the National Exit Test will serve as a qualifying and screening test for MBBS students in their final year. The draft regulation mentions NExT as the basis for certifying a medical graduate’s ability to register to practice India’s modern system of medicine. NExT functions as a license test. By establishing a person’s eligibility and ranking for those who desire to pursue additional PG medical education in the country in a number of medical specialties, NExT will also serve as an entrance test for admission.

The NeXT Exam results will be utilized for MD Admissions, hence the NEET PG exam will be superseded. NeXT will serve as the qualifying exam for medical practice in India, replacing the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination, or FMGE Test.

The NeXT exam will be divided into two parts, with part 1 focusing on theoretical examinations and part 2 focusing on practical, oral, and clinical assessments for the seven clinical topics and disciplines. This is in accordance with the rules, which were made public in December 2022. Once in place, the NeXT test will function as an MBBS exit test, a licentiate exam, and a common qualifying examination for final-year MBBS students.
