NIA to Look into Recent Attacks on Indian Missions in US and Canada

The recent assaults on the Indian High Commissions in Canada and the US will be looked into by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The NIA has reportedly received the file involving the Khalistani members from the Delhi Police.

In response to the March 2023 attacks in Canada and San Francisco, the Delhi Police Special Cell filed a FIR under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), according to a report. On March 20, an assault took place on the San Francisco Indian Consulate.

During a recent rally, alleged supporters of Khalistan in the US allegedly made threats against the Indian embassy and Taranjit Singh Sandhu, the Indian ambassador to the US. In his statement, a protester directly threatened the ambassador, warning that he may suffer the same fate that Zail Singh, the former president of India, did in 1994.

The recent acts of violence committed during demonstrations against Indian diplomatic missions around the nation were denounced by the US. According to a US government statement, “Violence or the threat of violence against diplomatic facilities and personnel in the United States is a grave concern and will not be tolerated.”

Khalistan supporters reportedly attacked Indian-origin journalists who were covering the protest in March 2023 as they were holding a demonstration outside the Indian Embassy in Canada and shouting pro-Khalistan chants.
